"Flannel Flowers", A Place to Breathe Series
Acrylic on Belgian Linen: 100cm x 100cm
"Flannel Flowers" captures the delicate beauty of these native blooms in Australia's rugged landscape. They embody the harmony of fragility and strength, a testament to the interconnectedness of life Down Under.
"The Cool Burn," Bush Track Series
Acrylic on Belgian Linen: 140cm x 140cm
‘The Cool Burn’ was inspired by indigenous-led back burning. This type of controlled burn is designed to protect our land from ravenous bushfires and is referred to as “cool burning”. The black ash, the rusty coloured leaves, the seared landscape exposing bedrock, vulnerable but ready to rejuvenate.
"After The Rains," Bush Track Series
Acrylic on Belgian Linen
‘After The Rains’ honours the powerful cycle of renewal and replenishment in nature. The preservation of the water cycle requires us to work with nature, not against it. The trees, gullies and granite boulders lead the viewer down to the curved billabong. This low area of the river only fills with water during a flood. The billabong serves as a vessel for the natural containment of water and the ecosystems it rejuvenates. It highlights the vital role of the elements, our waterways, rivers and lakes. A catchment of water always serves as a centre for life, a place to gather and thrive. A place of stories and connection. My soft blue hues represent the movement of water through the landscape. The fall of water over the rock ledge frames the trees and rock shapes on its passage toward the billabong. This outlining continues the sense of containment and flow. A reminder of how man must work with nature to create balance. The gum trees in the foreground link the sky to the earth creating a cyclical energy to the story. The gums place the viewer in the landscape surveying from a distance. From this view, we pause to observe the beauty. We realise the purpose of nature’s extremes and its life-giving outcomes.
"Tall Trees", Bush Track Series
Acrylic on Canvas
‘Tall Trees’ captures the beauty of Sydney’s iconic gum trees. I love their delicate lacework shapes against the backdrop of a vast sky. Standing tall and proud, the gums reach towards the sun, their slender trunks tell the story of resilience and endurance. The warm glow from the setting sun infuses the wild beauty of the Australian bush with a sense of tranquillity.
"Healing Spirit," White Waratah Series
Acrylic on Belgian Linen
The white waratah is the Australian indigenous symbol of wellness for women. Its strong stem and outreached petal 'arms', display a proud energy. The indigenous story says, if a female drinks the dew from a white waratah, it aids in her wellness and strength not only of body, but of mind and spirit.
